Networked Systems Recommendations—Windows client/server tools

Resource House 3.x applications are Windows client/server based tools. Recommended system for production version of Resource House 3.x whenever the Resource House database is on a separate LAN server from the client machine is shown below.

CD ROM Drive 20/48 X Speed
Network Card Ethernet 10/100 or token ring card, whichever is applicable.
Modem Not needed if user has broadband access; otherwise, V.90 or 56k data/fax/ voice modem
Monitor 17" or larger, using 1024x768 resolution or higher
Printer Any Windows compatible printer with acceptable speed
Operating System Software MS Windows 2000, XP, VISTA, Windows 7
Office Automation Software Latest version of MS Office
Browser Internet Explorer 8.0 (recommended); Mozilla Firefox 3.0 and above; Chrome 9; Opera 8.5
Internet Service Provide (ISP) An ISP is a company that provides internet access via telephone line, cable system, wireless, or satellite. We recommend broadband internet connectivity rather than dial-up.

Minimum Recommendations

Minimum system recommendations for running any of the Resource House Windows components (i.e. for a network client):

  • Pentium processor with 64 MB RAM 50 MB available hard disk space
  • CD ROM
  • Modem
  • ISP
  • Windows XP

Performance satisfaction cannot be guaranteed using the minimum requirements.

Server Requirements

Microsoft specifies the minimum server requirements for Microsoft SQL Server:

  • Windows 2000 or better (Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 5 is OK)
  • 128 MB RAM for Windows 98 or NT
  • 256 MB RAM recommended for Windows 2000
  • 500 MB – 1 GB available Hard Drive space
  • For LAN: Novell Netware ITX/SPX or Windows based networking (recommended)
  • Daily backup of SQL Server database

Note: Unless the free MSDE or SQL 2005 Express versions of MS SQL Server are used, a license for Microsoft SQL Server must be purchased from Microsoft. This SQL Server license is not supplied by North Light. Additionally, an AIRS/ INFO LINE taxonomy license must be purchased from the Alliance of Information and Referral Services.
